January is the main month for spawning in the Volturno River and its sides. Females mature their eggs, approach breeding sites, build nests and deposit thousands of small yellow eggs there. The color is due to the yolk which will be the nourishment first for the embryo and then for the newly hatched larvae (the yolk sac).

From the second week of January we therefore began to intercept some females with mature eggs that we fertilized with the semen of the males that we had frozen in December. This year the natural reproductions are a bit late but after a couple of weeks we have already produced about 15 thousand eggs which now continue their development in the facilities of Rocchetta a Volturno.
