NatSalMo partecipated in the 24th ASPA congress

To disseminate the results obtained following the scientific activities carried out in the context of actions C5 and C6, during the participation in the 24th ASPA (Animal Science and Production Association) congress, held in Padua at the “Fiore di Botta” university campus, by 21 to 24 September 2021, some scientific works were presented:

  • O150 – “How post-collection storage time can affect the semen freezability of Mediterranean trout?”, in oral form, concerning the preliminary results which were then the subject of scientific publication in the journal “Fishes” as a full paper.
  • P092 – “Cryobanking of native Mediterranean brown trout semen as a tool for the safeguard of genetic resources”, in the form of a poster in which the results obtained during the first two years of the project (2019-2021) were reported. the creation of the cryobank of the seed (action C5) and the activities of artificial reproduction (action C6).

Furthermore, the results of the genetic analyzes conducted on the trout were enhanced through the presentation of two posters:

  • P104 – “Genetic biodiversity study in Mediterranean trout population using SNP array: a case study in Molise region” in which information is provided on the genetic relationships and spatial distribution of the two trout populations inhabiting the Volturno and Biferno rivers. In addition, the data on the genetic structure of the population is reported, as well as the determination of subpopulations and the habitats related to them. These data are essential to undertake effective conservation and management strategies with the aim of preserving native trout and recovering the native genetic heritage in the aforementioned rivers.
  • P103 – “A machine learning approach for the identification of population-informative markers from trout genotyping data”, in which – using methods based on statistical approaches of “Machine Learning”, “Delta statistic” and “Fixation index” – the results are reported preliminary work on reducing the SNP panel of the genotyping chip array, the ultimate goal of which will be to be able to add further markers that improve the informative and discriminating power of the analysis in rapid tests.
