The municipality of Rocchetta a Volturno is located at 540 m asl in the province of Isernia in Molise and has a population of 1,077 inhabitants with an area of 2,402 hectares. The inhabitants are called “Rocchettani” and are distributed over three large residential areas: Rocchetta a Volturno, Rocchetta Alta and Castelnuovo. The city is bordered to the south-west by the municipality of Scapoli, to the south by Colli al Volturno, to the west by Cerro al Volturno, to the north by Castel San Vincenzo and to the east by Lazio. Rocchetta a Volturno was founded around the seventh century with the name “Bactaria” probably in a place called “Vaccareccia”. Most of the inhabitants have always dedicated themselves to the cultivation of corn, wheat, cereals in general and the production of olive oil. The territory of Rocchetta a Volturno is home to the source of the river of the same name, two important hydroelectric power stations and various artisan companies for wrought iron, aluminum, poultry farms, farms, restaurants and hotels. The municipality of Rocchetta a Volturno is the owner of one of the egg incubation facilities that will be used during the Nat.Sal.Mo.
